4 Cool Ways to Make Use of LED Lights
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a light that becomes active when enough voltage is applied to the semiconductors causing the lights to emit as current is passed to them. One of the main differences between an LED light and a regular incandescent light is that LEDs are directional, whereas incandescent lights spread the light that is emitted. To disperse the light in LEDs, some are made with diffusers and reflectors to enhance the direction of light making them emit light in a larger area.
The benefits of LEDs greatly outweigh those of other bulbs. LED lights last about ten times as long as regular compact lights and are extremely efficient using about 2-17 watts of energy. One of the biggest complaints of regular incandescent lights is how hot they become, LED lights do not get hot. In fact they stay room temperature and can be touched at any time without the worry of heat. LEDs are also mercury free, extremely durable and cost-effective for their lifespan.
LED lights are now available in home lighting, Christmas lights, sirens, strobe lights, vehicle lights, etc. There are various options available and you can find it here through an online distributor. There are so many neat things you can do with LEDs. Below are just a few of those ideas.
Lights in a Bottle
One really neat idea that can be used as decoration at weddings, special events or even in your home is an empty wine bottle filled with LED lights. Drill a small hole in the back of the bottle so that you can plug them and the entire mood of the room will change. The use of a wine bottle, champagne bottle or another large bottle will make this decorating piece light up any room.
Child’s Room Sky
A neat way to really make a child’s day is to create a night sky effect in their room on the ceiling. It will take some work by drilling small holes in the ceiling to allow each bulb on a strand or two of lights to fit through, but the final product will look extremely satisfying. All you will be able to see is the bulb from the room, but the cords will be in the attic. With some electrical work you can set up a light switch to turn the lights on. Once you turn the room lights out and switch these on, the night sky is literally at your fingertips.
Bottle Chandelier
Another neat idea utilizing bottles involves creating a lantern with each string in a spiral descending inwards so that the bottles get longer. You can use old coca cola bottles with the labels peeled off. Colored LED lights are perfect for this project. You can mix and match colors or use a solid color. You will want to frost each of the bottles so that they end up having a nice glow of color to them. Placing the wires to the circuit board on top of the lantern is the hardest part of the job, but the end results is beautiful and perfect for a back patio.
Dixie Cup Lights
One of the easiest projects is to attach a dixie cup to each blub in a strand of lights by cutting an ‘x’ in the bottom of each cup and then slipping the light bulb into each one. The cup will illuminate more light and the colors of the cup will fill the room. It looks elegant and is a very cute idea for a baby shower, home decorations or special events.
There are several other fun and creative ways to use LED lights inside and outside, you just have to open up your mind and allow your artistic abilities to shine!
